New Toyota Prius wins intriguing design award. How do you like it?

Toyota Prius fifth generation receives one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. In the international Red Dot Design Award competition, the new Prius receives the highest honor, Best of the Best. The jury, composed of design experts, recognizes the Prius for its modern and daring interpretation of the liftback body, characterized by elegant lines and stylistic solutions.

Toyota Prius is a groundbreaking hybrid 

Prius is one of the most important vehicles in Toyota’s history. As a pioneer of electromobility, it has been at the forefront of hybrid technologies for 26 years, and its distinctive liftback silhouette has become a symbol of eco-friendly automotive. In this year’s Red Dot Design Award competition, Prius emerged as the winner in the Product Design category, selected by a 43-member jury among 51 outstanding products.

Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world. Organized for over 60 years by the German brand Red Dot, publisher of the eponymous magazine and founder of Red Dot Design Museums in Essen, Singapore, and Xiamen, China. Each year, around 20,000 entries are submitted, evaluated by the jury in three categories: Product Design, Communication Design, and Design Concept.

The latest Prius looks modern and sporty 

The unique aerodynamic liftback silhouette, for which the Prius is renowned, is even more pronounced and modern in the new model, featuring coupe-like sporty lines. The car’s character is accentuated by large 19-inch wheels, newly designed headlights, and a three-dimensional light strip at the rear that draws attention to the PRIUS logo.

The minimalist interior, in dark tones, features an updated ergonomic dashboard with digital gauges, a large touchscreen display, a sleek climate control panel, and illuminated alerts for active safety systems.

The fifth-generation 

Prius is exclusively available as a plug-in hybrid. This system, based on a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 163-horsepower electric motor, generates a total output of 223 horsepower. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, making it the most dynamic model in Prius history.

The 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery provides an average range of up to 86 km according to WLTP, and up to 111 km in city driving. Charging with a 3.5 kW charger takes about four hours. The new Prius is even more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, averaging 0.5 l/100 km fuel consumption and emitting 11 g/km of CO2. The energy consumption in EV mode averages 11.4 kWh per 100 km.
