Apple iPhone 16: Price, Release Date, Specifications, and More

IPhone 16 Mock Header 2
Each year, the debut of new iPhones is as certain as the rising sun. Apple is currently working on the sixteenth iteration of its iconic phones, set to arrive, as tradition dictates, in the autumn slot. What can we expect from this new quartet of Apple phones? What might these devices come with and what might they lack?

Apple iPhone 16 and Its Variants

The introduction of the compact version dubbed “Mini” by Apple was unexpected, and the Mini series was available for only two generations. After the iPhone 12 Mini came the iPhone 13 Mini, followed by the series’ termination due to poor sales, being replaced by the Plus series—a larger version of the base model.

However, the Plus variants have not seen extraordinary success. While they are not complete failures, these iPhones are far from being a successful project. Nonetheless, the Plus version will get another chance, the third in a row, and it will be intriguing to see how this enlarged model performs in sales within the iPhone 16 series.

A Glimpse into the Design of iPhone 16

Design discussions primarily focus on potential changes to the base iPhone 16 and the larger Plus model. Apple might return to the vertical arrangement of the dual-camera instead of the diagonal layout, which has been in use since the iPhone 13. There was much speculation about the forthcoming iPhone 16 getting Face ID within the display, but it seems it might be too early for that.

Integrating Face ID technology within the display would mean no notches on iPhones, providing a seamless display. Although there were speculations, seasoned analysts predict that facial recognition directly in the display may not appear before 2025, likely with the iPhone 17. Hence, a notch-less display is still a future prospect.

Basic Models Still with 60Hz Displays

Another feature that the upcoming iPhones will unfortunately lack is the ProMotion technology in the base iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Although there were speculations, it seems unlikely. The high refresh rate (120 Hz) will remain reserved only for the Pro and Pro Max specs next year, reaching the basic versions only in 2025.

Display of iPhone 16 to be Larger, Yet…

The significant changes in screen size are expected for the higher-tier models of the Pro and Pro Max variants, increasing to 6.3 and 6.9 inches, respectively. If these significantly larger displays materialize, the phones will inevitably grow in size, although potential ultra-thin bezels might somewhat mitigate the change. Larger dimensions would mean a higher weight. Nonetheless, flagship iPhones have reduced their weight due to the use of titanium, so this might not pose a major problem.

Inclusion of the Action Button for All

A positive note is that the action button (or Action button) introduced this year in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max should arrive in the next generation for basic models. Additionally, this feature is expected to undergo modernization and offer a capacitive structure with haptic feedback, a significant move toward a significant new feature.
