Sweden Builds World’s Tallest Wood Wind Tower

As reported by Electrek Swedish startup Modvion has unveiled the world’s tallest wooden wind turbine tower, standing at an impressive 105 meters. This innovative structure, located in the town of Skara, northeast of Gothenburg, marks a significant milestone in the development of sustainable renewable energy solutions.

Environmentally Friendly and Carbon Negative

The tower’s construction utilizes sustainably sourced spruce, meticulously cut into thin veneers of just 3 millimeters in thickness. These layers are meticulously stacked to form the tower’s strong and resilient walls, showcasing the remarkable strength of engineered wood. The structure is further reinforced by its modular design, comprising seven sections that consist of 28 stacked modules held together by precisely bonded steel fittings.

Vestas equipped the towering structure with a 2-MW turbine, capable of generating enough electricity to power approximately 400 Swedish households.
