Continuing the saga in search of inexplicable SEO, unfortunately, I had to remove some plugins from my website, and my SEO dropped to 89. Some minification plugins prevented the robot.txt and other functions from working properly. I’ll write a detailed article soon on the website’s progress.

Today, let’s talk about Keywords and Hashtags.

Mastering SEO with Keywords and Hashtags

There’s much controversy around them; some believe they don’t make a difference in SEO.

Technically, keywords and hashtags are the same. Hashtags are clickable keywords; they appear on social media platforms where SEO works differently from search engines like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, and others.

Keywords are the most searched words on a specific topic. Using them increases your content’s chances of ranking higher on search engines or receiving more views, the same applies to hashtags.

I’ll explain how to use these two resources to get more views on your posts:

Keywords

In SEO, search engines have algorithms that detect if a publication meets certain requirements they establish. These algorithms can detect if the grammar is correct and if the text contains keywords for the topic being written about.

On Medium, apart from this algorithm, there are curators who check and determine whether the article has really met the requirements and is suitable to be included in the trending articles.

Updated Guidelines for Boost

In my opinion, instead of researching keyword by keyword, aim to become an expert on the topic you’re writing about. You’ll naturally generate keywords.

In the photo above are just examples; do your own research and determine which one is best for your case. Ahrefs, Google Keyword Planner are good and basic, but always do your own research.

Google Trends — I personally like this tool. It helps assess the real search volume of a specific word on Google over a certain period, making it easy to evaluate if that word is trending and thus increasing the chances of success.

Hashtags #

Hashtags work similarly to keywords, but hashtags are clickable. If your hashtag is trending, it will appear for those who are following or clicking on that hashtag. For your hashtag to have a good impact, your account needs to be well-engaged. The more likes and comments your post gets, the more the algorithm will push your post in relation to that hashtag.

To create hashtags, there are various AI tools. I personally ask Bard or ChatGPT to create them for me.

More important than hashtags and keywords is consistency. To beat an algorithm, you need to demonstrate consistency.
