Co-founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Ross Young, is an industry analyst for displays, and he believes Apple has something special in store for everyone who is thinking about getting the new 12.9-inch iPad Air. Young reported that the bigger iPad Air will use the same MiniLED display technology as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in a recent social media post.

New iPad Air Advantages

For purchasers of iPad Air devices, this is important news because MiniLED displays provide a number of advantages over conventional LCD screens. Compared to conventional backlighting, miniLED technology makes use of substantially smaller LEDs, allowing for characteristics like a higher contrast ratio, deeper blacks, and possibly longer battery life because of reduced power usage.

Young speculates that Apple may be using MiniLED panels left over from the production of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro for the larger iPad Air. This might result in an iPad Air model that is less expensive while maintaining a premium display.

Although specifics are still being kept under wraps, it’s safe to say that the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air is starting to look like a very attractive choice for consumers who value a larger display and high-end functionality but don’t absolutely require the iPad Pro.
