It's meant to bring resolution to the controversy over the copyright dispute of images that other AIs learn from. The Firefly AI service is integrated directly into Creative Cloud, but is only available as a beta for now.

Already established AI models such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E use hundreds of millions of images from the internet to generate their own images. Many of these are certainly copyrighted, which has led to resentment in the art community.

Quality is comparable to DALL-E
The first outputs from the new Firefly service seem to be on par with OpenAI’s DALL-E, so it looks like the quality has not suffered. We’ll have to wait for an objective assessment when this service comes out of beta and is available for mass use.
The next question is whether the art community will embrace this new concept that Adobe has come up with. At first glance, Firefly seems like a step for the better in terms of ethics and copyright protection. However, it remains to be seen how consistent Adobe will be in adhering to its set rules.
